Development of a 32 Channel Temperature Controller

Problem:

A customer was using a stand-alone 8-channel temperature controller on their tool that had been expanded to support a requirement for 16-channels. Soon after, they needed to accommodate even more channels.

Their initial solution was to add a second temp controller, but that would double the space needed and double the cost of the units, as well as require several more communication cables.

Solution:

Solving an age-old heating problem for control systems, DDI designed and built a fully integrated 32-channel PID loop controller. The product supports all thermocouple types and is fully integrated into our EIOC family of products, thereby streamlining cabling and eliminating the need for external temperature controllers and it dropped in to the exact footprint of the 16-channel controller at a significant cost savings.

Results/Value:

To answer the customer's ever-increasing demand for heater control, DDI provided a compact solution as well as a price advantage and delivered the hardware within 6 weeks of final design.

The new controller supports all thermocouple types and is fully integrated into our Ethernet I/O Controller (EIOC) line of products, thereby streamlining cabling and requiring minimal integration. One to several channels of temperature control can also be designed into all DDI Ethernet I/O Controllers.
